Water-filled breast implants<\/h1>\n

During the consultation for a
\n breast augmentation<\/strong>
\n<\/a> we will inform you in detail about the different breast implants. Silicone breast implants are the most widely known and used, but did you know that there are also water-filled breast implants? Because these implants are filled with saltwater, which is also naturally found in our bodies, these implants are gaining popularity among ladies. Plastic surgeon Ren\u00e9 van der Hulst is happy to tell you more about it.<\/p>\n

Water instead of silicone gel<\/h2>\n

It is good to know that the shell of the breast implant is still made of silicone, but the filling is different. Water-filled means filled with physiological salt, or saltwater. For example, physiological salt is also given by infusion, and it has the same ratio of sodium as is present in our bodies.<\/p>\n

What are the benefits?<\/h2>\n

Saline-filled breast prostheses have long been used as an alternative for women who do not want silicone filling. The advantage is that in the event of a leak, only physiological saline leaks out, which can simply be urinated out. In addition, you also notice it right away when there is a leak because the breast immediately shrinks. This is not the case with a silicone-filled prosthesis. If the implant ruptures, the silicone mass does not leak into the body, so you are less likely to notice a leak.<\/p>\n

So why would I still choose silicone implants?<\/h2>\n

One disadvantage of water-filled breast implants is that they can feel a bit harder and also easier to feel. Silicone-filled implants feel most like natural breast tissue: soft and also gentle when touched. Therefore, the majority of our patients choose silicone implants. These are safe, very sturdy and reliable. Furthermore, there is still insufficient evidence whether water-filled prostheses are less likely, compared with silicone-filled prostheses<\/a>, to have symptoms associated with BII or ASIA.<\/p>\n
