Fine-tuning the contours of a MOOI face
At MOOI Clinic, we’re all about bring a smile to your face when you look at your reflection in the mirror with confidence. After this mini facelift, also called an S-lift, the contours of your jawline will be clearly visible again, without sagging skin. As you consider an S-lift, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. During a consultation with a plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht, we’ll also provide you with all the necessary information so you can make an informed decision.
What is an S-lift?
The S-lift is the least invasive lift sometimes done in place of a more extensive treatment such as a facelift. We make an S-shaped incision near the ears that allows us to lift the skin tissue. No connective tissue is lifted as in the MACS lift. The S-lift primarily addresses wrinkles on the cheeks.
When to have an S-lift?
While some people may see wrinkles as endearing or unique, other prefer to diminish wrinkles rather than embrace them. A mini facelift is particularly suitable for people with some wrinkles on the cheeks and who want their skin a little tighter. The S-lift doesn’t address wrinkles around the nose and mouth; for this, a MACS lift or classic facelift is more appropriate.
At MOOI, we offer a range of procedures for a more beautiful and youthful face. Our priority is to preserve the distinctive characteristics that make each person unique. With our expertise and knowledge, you have come to the right place at MOOI.
Combination with eyelid surgery
An S-lift is often combined with eyelid surgery to achieve a more complete result. Discuss your concerns during the consultation with the surgeon. The S-lift and eyelid surgery can be performed during the same surgery.
Combination with chemical peel
After a facelift, certain wrinkles are greatly reduced or removed; however, this doesn’t mean that your skin will look its best. For example, if you have smoked a lot or had sun damage, your skin may benefit from a chemical peel to rejuvenate it. At MOOI Clinic, you can opt for the deep chemical peels that penetrate into the lower layers of skin (called the dermis). MOOI Clinic’s chemical peels not only contain trichloroacetic acid, but also a substance called phenol, which means these treatment should only be performed by a doctor. Ask about these treatments during a consultation.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your mini facelift. During the consultation, you’ll speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts about everything from general information about the before and after care, to details such as where the incision will be (neatly in the hairline along the ear/sideburn). There are many different types of facelifts and techniques. The plastic surgeon will advise you on this based on your skin and concerns. We also take photos for your medical records today.
After the consultation, you’ll be up to date on everything regarding your future facelift. You’ll receive honest advice from us about the expected outcome, risks, recovery and exact costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The facelift
A mini facelift takes place under local anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. In the S-lift, an incision is made from the hairline/sideburns along the ear in the shape of an S. From here, the skin is lifted and excess skin is removed. The scar falls neatly into the hairline and is barely visible after complete healing. This procedure takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
If all goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the treatment and with the surgeon’s approval. You’re not allowed to drive yourself so plan in advance how you will get home safely. Prior to your surgery, you’re well informed about our aftercare and recovery instructions.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you’ll receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It’s important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, the treated area is likely to be swollen and blue – this is quite normal. Using a cold pack every hour will help stop the swelling. After a week you’ll come to the clinic for a check-up and we’ll remove the stitches.
You should not bend, lift or exert yourself physically for the first few days. You also may not wear contact lenses for the first 2 weeks and makeup for the first 3 weeks. Avoid hard foods that require considerable chewing. After a week, you can slowly build up the food hardness again.
Most people take at least one week, but preferably two weeks, off from work. Keep in mind that scars will be visible at first. Scars do not mature until after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved at that point will likely remain. Protect the scars from the sun during this period.

Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with an S-lift. In the vast majority of situations, this is not serious and is easily treated. There is a small chance of injury to the facial nerve. This happens rarely and is usually transient in these rare cases. Read more about the possible risks and complications of plastic surgery here.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
Experience of others
Your desire and reasons for having something done to your appearance is personal. It’s very important to us that you feel good about your choices and so we also give you time to decide what you’re most comfortable with.
