Becoming a mother is beautiful and special. A woman’s body can create a small person, and that is a miraculous event. But it’s important to acknowledge that pregnancy can leave lasting changes on the body. Many women experience physical changes after pregnancy: your breasts and belly in particular get a lot bigger through pregnancy, only to shrink significantly again after birth and breastfeeding. As you consider a mommy makeover, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. During a consultation with a plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht, we’ll provide you with all the necessary information so you can make an informed decision.
When to have a Mommy Makeover?
You notice that your body has changed quite a bit after pregnancy or as you age. Maybe your breasts hang a lot more because the skin here has been stretched and lost elasticity. Or maybe your breasts have lost volume so they’re not as full as they were before pregnancy. With a Mommy Makeover, not only are your breasts rejuvenated, we also look at your belly, the are where your baby felt wonderfully at home for 9 months. To give your baby plenty of room, your abdominal muscles may have moved and stretched. These muscles don’t go back to their original location for everyone. You may also suffer from sagging and excess skin below your navel to your pubic area. Those problems can be corrected with a tummy tuck.
It’s good to know in advance that after the Mommy Makeover, you should not lift anything for a while. Therefore, the advice is to wait until your child can walk on their own and is already reasonably independent.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your Mommy Make Over. Write down your wishes and questions in advance so you can ask them at the consultation. During the consultation, you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in Mommy Make Overs. You’ll talk about everything from general information about the before and after care, to details such as whether you want to consider breast implants and where the incisions are made.
During the consultation, you can also try on extensive breast implants if you’re considering this, and we will advise you on what suits your body best. For this, the doctor also measures your current breasts. It’s very important to us that you feel good about your choice of implant. Any doubts? If so, please let us know.
We also take the photos for your medical records today. After the consultation, you will be up to date on everything regarding your future Mommy Make Over. You’ll receive our honest advice on the expected outcome, risks, recovery and costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The operation
The Mommy Make Over takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. The anesthesiologist will put you under anesthesia in the OR. Exactly how and what will happen during surgery depends, of course, on your body, wishes and choices.
A Mommy Make Over is a combination of treatments that are performed. This combination is customized at MOOI Clinic, but the most common combinations are:
- A tummy tuck and breast augmentation.
- A tummy tuck and a breast lift.

Depending on which procedure is done, the surgery takes about 2 to 3 hours. Some procedures require an overnight stay in the hospital.
Aftercare and recovery
You may have some afterpain, especially if the abdominal wall muscle is also tightened. You’ll need to wear a belly band day and night for six weeks after the surgery. This stops swelling and fluid accumulation. If necessary, drains will be placed to drain wound fluid. These are removed after a few days.
It is important to wear a good bra for the first six weeks to give your breasts good support and to combat swelling. If drains are placed, they can almost always be removed the day after surgery. After two weeks, we take out the stitches.
You usually stay in the hospital overnight. If all goes well and the plastic surgeon has done the checkup, you may go home. You may not drive yourself so arrange in advance how you will get home safely.
You may begin carefully walking short distances in a slightly hunched posture starting on the third day. In the first few weeks, take it easy and avoid strenuous exercise and lifting. The scars may be red and swollen; this gradually diminishes. You can usually resume your normal activities after 6 weeks.

The procedures in brief
What is a Mommy Make Over? With a Mommy Make Over, two areas are corrected at once in one surgery through a breast correction and a tummy tuck. This combination is customized at MOOI Clinic, but the most common combinations are:
- A tummy tuck and breast augmentation.
- A tummy tuck and a breast lift.
“Mommy-make over” is actually not the right term. Literally, this would mean getting a new body and of course you can’t and don’t want that. Besides, it’s really not only mothers who have this surgery. A B&B correction would be a MUCH nicer name.
TUMMY TUCK
In a tummy tuck, the abdominal skin is completely detached from the muscle layer to the rib arch. Then all excess skin and/or fat at the bottom is removed. The abdominal skin is stretched downward and reattached. A new opening is made in front of the navel. The scar is made just above the pubic area and just below the bikini line from hip to hip. Sometimes it may be better to combine a tummy tuck with liposuction.
BREAST AUGMENTATION
If your breasts have lost volume after your pregnancy, or have started to droop, breast augmentation is an option. There are different types of breast augmentation: with implants or with your own fat (lipofilling). Some women already had breast implants before pregnancy. Breasts may also droop or lose volume with implants – this is normal. An implant replacement or a combination with a breast lift may then be an option. The plastic surgeon is happy to advise you personally.
BREAST LIFT
A breast lift can be a solution for breasts that are very saggy due to pregnancy or weight loss. A breast lift can also be combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction. The major difference between a breast lift and a breast reduction is that a breast lift usually removes only skin and little to no mammary gland tissue. The scar depends on the size of the lift and can range from a scar around the areola, to a scar similar to a breast reduction. There is usually less scarring when the breast lift is combined with breast augmentation.
Risks
As with any procedure, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with a Mommy Make Over. This is usually easily treated. Given the size of the scars, there is a real chance that these problems will occur. In most cases, dressings are used until the wound is closed and no additional surgery is needed.
A Mommy Make Over is a combination of procedures. This can increase the time you are under anesthesia. One advantage is that you have one recovery period. Scar recovery can never be completely predicted. The appearance of thick and lumpy scars, also called scar hypertrophy, can occur.
If the treatment includes breast augmentation with breast implants, there is a risk of capsular contracture or leakage of the prostheses over time. All risks regarding breast augmentation with implants are described in the a “package insert.” You should read this document carefully before surgery.

Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.

What does a Mommy Make Over cost?
After the consultation with the plastic surgeon, you’ll know exactly what your breast surgery and tummy tuck will cost. The price depends, among other things, on the combination of procedures.
Please note that it’s not possible to claim expenses for treatments from health insurance. MOOI only performs procedures for uninsured care.
