The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your procedure. Write down your wishes and questions in advance so you can ask them during the consultation. During the consultation, you’ll speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in removing excess skin about everything from general information about before and after care, to specific details like where the scar will be. The scar depends on the amount of skin and, of course, the body part involved.
We also take photos for your medical records today. After the consultation, you’ll be aware of everything about your future procedure: from our honest advice on the expected outcome, to risks, recovery and costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The operation
Removal of excess skin is done under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. The anesthesiologist will put you under anesthesia in the OR. Where the incision is made depends on the amount of excess skin and the body part involved. The plastic surgeon will discuss this with you during the consultation.
You can usually go home the same day after surgery, but sometimes an overnight stay in the hospital is necessary. If all goes well and you feel good then you can go home after our plastic surgeon’s approval. You’re not allowed to drive yourself, so make arrangements in advance for how you will get home safely. Prior to your surgery, you’re well informed about our recovery and aftercare instructions.
Result/expectation after surgery
As the name suggests, body contouring surgery is a transformative procedure that improves the contours of your body and overall shape by removing excess skin. Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually easily treated. Given the size of the scars (in post bariatric surgery), there is a real chance that these problems will occur. In most cases, dressings are used until the wound is closed and no additional surgery is needed. The appearance of thick and lumpy scars, also called scar hypertrophy, can occur. If the treatment includes breast augmentation with breast implants, there is a risk of capsular contracture or leakage of the implants over time.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
