QUICK FACTS

What you want to know quickly about a labia correction

  • Directly home

  • By female plastic surgeon

  • Fully recovered after 6 to 8 weeks

What concerns do you have?

During puberty, our bodies experience many changes. In 60% of women, the inner labia become larger (or longer) than the outer labia after puberty. This is not unusual and is a normal anatomical change. With these changes, you may see or feel that the inner labia comes out. Sometimes even after pregnancy, the inner labia may suddenly become larger or make you feel like you have a wider opening . The medical term for such an enlargement is hypertrophy.

Besides the fact that many women find it less aesthetically pleasing when the inner labia are visibly larger than the outer labia, it can also become troublesome because you may experience things like pain during intercourse, irritation or pain during sports (like horseback riding and cycling), and embarrassment or discomfort with tight clothing and bathing suits.

The consultation from A to Z

You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your labia correction. During the consultation, you will speak with a female plastic surgeon who specializes in labia corrections about everything from general information about the before and after care, to details about the technique and how the labia will be corrected.

After the consultation, you will be up to date on everything regarding your future labia correction; you’ll receive our honest advice on the expected result, to risks, recovery and costs. We also take pictures for your file today.

An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.

The labia correction

We usually do the procedure under local anesthesia so you won’t feel anything. Before surgery, the part of the labia to be removed is marked in consultation with you. The inner labia are reduced in size so that they fall nicely inside the outer labia (also called “labia majora”), and therefore a better proportion is achieved. The process involves removing excess skin and tissue, usually by using a wedge excision (a V-shaped incision). This takes into account that there is no scar retraction. After removal, the mucosa is closed with soluble sutures that do not need to be removed.

labia reduction

You can usually go home the same day after surgery. If all goes well and you feel good, you can go home after a check-up. You’re not allowed to drive yourself so arrange in advance how you will get home safely. Prior to your surgery, you’re well informed about our aftercare and recovery instructions.

Aftercare and recovery

After the treatment, you can go home immediately but you cannot drive yourself, so be sure to plan in advance how you will get home safely. During the first few days, the labia may be quite swollen so using a cold compress is important. A mild painkiller such as paracetamol is often enough to control the after pain. Usually the swelling comes down considerable after three days. You should take it easy but also keep moving; good blood flow promotes healing. After a week, you can return to work. Avoid heavy bending and lifting for a few more weeks.

MY MOOI KLINIEK

Always well informed

At MOOI Clinic we think it is important that you have easy and safe access to information about your treatment. We would like to keep you informed via your own MOOI account. This way you are always well prepared. You will only receive messages that are relevant to you, before, during and after the treatment.

Risks

As with any surgery, there is a small chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily treated. Complete symmetry is the goal, but can never be 100% guaranteed.

MOOI Clinic recommends that you read the aesthetic package insert carefully. It is designed to give you the additional information you need, to help you make an informed decision.

QUIT SMOKING

We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
