BEAUTIFUL as you are and feel good about it!
Feeling MOOI yourself starts with taking good care of your body and mind. In some cases, this means replacing or even removing your existing breast implants. If you have had breast augmentation with breast implants in the past, it is wise to have your breasts checked by a plastic surgeon once every 10 years. We’ll be happy to inform you about replacing or removing your breast implants during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
When to replace breast implants?
Even after breast augmentation, your breasts can still change. For example, pregnancy can cause the skin to sag, which may have caused your breasts to droop more. Weight gain or loss can also cause this. In addition, complications such as capsular contracture or implant rupture may be a reason to remove and replace the old breast implants. We call this an implant replacement. The old implants are replaced with new implants of the same volume or a modified volume. If your breasts are very saggy, an implant exchange including a breast lift is an option.
When to have breast implants removed?
Some ladies themselves choose to have their breast implants completely removed and no new ones put back in. With complications such as capsular contracture or due to illness, this may be the best option. There are some exceptions where breast surgery is partially reimbursed by your health insurance company. We invite you to a consultation with the plastic surgeon if you have a desire to have your implants removed.
Possibilities of full removal
When removing breast implants without inserting new ones, it’s best to discuss other options such as lipofilling (breast augmentation with your own fat) with your plastic surgeon. In addition, there are several ways to remove the implants. We discuss this during the consultation.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI clinic in Maastricht to discuss the implant change or removal. During the consultation you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in this about everything from general information about the before and after care, to the details such as contents of the surgery.
After the consultation, you’ll be aware of everything concerning the surgery: you’ll receive honest advice from us about the expected result, risks, recovery and costs. Photos will also be taken today for your medical records.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
Breast surgery
The surgery takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel anything. The anesthesiologist will put you under anesthesia in the OR. Usually the procedure is done through the existing scar; sometimes we need to enlarge it a bit or make an incision in another place. Of course, this will be discussed with you in advance. The procedure takes one to two hours, depending on what is involved in the procedure.
You can usually go home the same day after surgery. If all goes well and you feel good then you can go home after the plastic surgeon’s approval. You’re not allowed to drive yourself so arrange in advance how you will get home safely. You’re well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you’ll receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It’s important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. Recovery, of course, depends on the exact procedure you underwent. With a replacement, recovery is largely in line with a normal breast augmentation.
After surgery, your breasts will feel tense and perhaps painful. That feeling lessens within a few days. Scars may be temporarily red and swollen after the procedure. It’s important to take it easy for the first few weeks and not lift or exert yourself heavily.
You’ll come for regular check-ups at MOOI Clinic. It’s important to wear an optimally supportive bra immediately; we’ll inform you about this. After two weeks, we remove the stitches. Even after surgery and outside of checkups, we’re always here for you if you have questions! At our clinic, lines are short and we’ll help you as quickly as possible.
In most cases, you can return to work after two weeks. After six weeks, you can slowly begin exercising again and are likely to be fully active again. Read more about recovery from permanent removal here.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily treated.
After placing a breast implant, the body naturally forms a layer of connective tissue around the implant called a capsule. Sometimes the capsule contracts and the breasts become hard and unnaturally round. Unfortunately, no cause for this has yet been found.
Temporary fluid accumulation may occur, sometimes lasting longer due to the resulting implant cavity upon complete removal. Irregularities that are also there with a breast implant can sometimes become more visible. And finally, even with an extensive capsulectomy, for example, the removal of healthy tissue can reveal irregularities.
Sensation in the nipple may be reduced or sometimes even hypersensitive at first. This will gradually improve. In some cases, numbness of the nipples occurs when much capsular tissue must be removed, and in very rare situations, loss of the nipple occurs.
The final appearance of scars varies from person to person. To get a beautiful result, subcutaneous sutures are used. Nevertheless, some clients may develop thick, bumpy scars. In any case, the scars are pink at first and gradually fade during the first year. It is important to note that scars never become completely invisible. If you have very active scars, this can be treated through a special scar plaster or with injections. These treatments are covered by insured care. However, this will come at the expense of your deductible. If necessary, scars can be corrected later.
MOOI Clinic recommends that you read the package insert carefully. It’s designed to give you the additional information you need to help you make an informed decision.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
Experience of other women
It is very important to us that you feel good about your choices. We also take the time for you to see what suits you best. Be sure to read other patients’ experiences through ZorgkaartNederland.nl.
I had my breast implants removed after almost 21 years. For me, MOOI Clinic was the best because it has very good reviews. And that is how I experienced it. Everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable. You are “seen” and “heard” as a client. There is a friendly atmosphere. I did not look forward to the procedure at all. Everything went very well and smoothly.
I had implants removed and a breast lift by Drs Meesters. The end result turned out super. Drs Meesters is very knowledgeable and would recommend her to anyone.
