When to have a nipple correction or reduction?
You are satisfied with your breasts, except for your nipples. You think the areola is way too big or is not nicely rounded. In addition, you may find that the nipple itself is much too large, so it always sticks out. Retracted nipples are also more common and can also be corrected.
Not satisfied with the position of your nipples? Because they point very down or have sunk below your breast fold? Then we recommend a breast elevator. Nipple areola reduction is also commonly used in breast reduction surgery.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your nipple correction. During the consultation, you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in this particular treatment. From general information on pre- and aftercare, to details of treatment.
We are also taking the photos for your medical records today. After the consultation you will be informed about everything concerning your nipple correction: You will receive honest advice from us about the expected result, risks, recovery and costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The intervention
Nipple correction or nipple reduction is done under local anesthesia so you won’t feel anything. With a retracted nipple, the milk ducts that pull the nipple inward are loosened. In a areola reduction, we remove some of the pigmented skin around the nipple. We do this through an incision around the outside of the areola or around the nipple. We can also shrink an oversized nipple or areola. We suture the incisions with soluble sutures. The procedure takes about thirty minutes to an hour.
If it goes well then you can go home immediately after the procedure.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions and living rules from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After treatment, bruising may form and the nipples may be swollen.
Recovery of your nipples is generally fast. Count on 2 to 4 weeks for full recovery here, depending on the procedure. However, you can return to work after a few days if it feels good and does not involve physically demanding work.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with rhinoplasty. This is usually not serious and easily remedied.
There is a small chance of numbness of the nipples, decreased ability or sometimes even inability to breastfeed.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.

If you do want to qualify for reimbursement, we are happy to refer you to one of our hospitals. For this you need a referral from the family doctor. We recommend consulting the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy.
