The contours of your face MOOI visible again
A smile on your face when you look at yourself in the mirror with confidence is what the MOOI clinic is all about. After this facelift, you will be rid of the wrinkles and hamster cheeks that give you an older look than you would like. Since you’re considering a MACS elevator, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course, we will fully inform you during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
What kind of facelift is a MACS elevator?
MACS stands for Minimal Access Cranial Suspension elevator. We perform this elevator very often because it is much less invasive than a full facelift. In the MACS elevator, subcutaneous connective tissue is lifted along with the skin. To do this, we make a minimal incision at the edge of the hairline and in front of the ear; then we elevator the cheeks, jawline and part of the neck.
Difference from a classic facelift?
The MACS facelift and the classic facelift treat the same area: the midface and jawline. However, the technique used to arrive at the result is different.
When a MACS elevator?
Wrinkles may be considered characteristic or charming, but many people would rather lose them than get rid of them. A MACS elevator is specifically designed to restore the area around your jawline and cheeks, so that the contours of your face are MOOI visible again. It also includes the wrinkle or fold between the corner of the nose and mouth. Of course, you’ll also look younger after surgery because the skin and subcutaneous tissue are lifted.
At MOOI, we offer a range of solutions for a more beautiful, younger face. In doing so, we would like to preserve the traits that make each person unique. That requires knowledge and expertise, and for that, you’ve come to the right place at MOOI.
Combination with eyelid surgery
A MACS elevator is often combined with eyelid surgery to achieve the desired result. Discuss your needs during the consultation. The MACS elevator and eyelid surgery are then performed during the same surgery and under general anesthesia.
Combination with laser treatment
After a facelift, certain wrinkles are greatly reduced or removed. However, this does not mean that your skin is in good condition. For example, if you have smoked a lot or suffered sun damage, you can use a laser treatment to renew your skin, such as the BBL HEROic treatment. At MOOI clinic, you can get deep laser peels that penetrate into the lower layers of skin (called the dermis or dermis). Laser treatments are performed at MOOI clinic by plastic surgeons and/or specialized skin therapists. Ask about these treatments during a consultation.

The MACS facelift
A MACS facelift takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. In the MACS elevator, an incision is made from the hairline/bakel along the ear to a little behind your ear. The skin is detached from the lower layer and the subcutaneous tissue is lifted and tightened with surgical wires. In the MACS elevator, the plastic surgeon also removes excess skin. The scar falls neatly into the hairline and is barely visible after complete healing. This procedure takes about 2.5 hours.
If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the treatment and check-up. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, the treated area is likely to be swollen and blue. This is quite normal. You can cool with a coldpack to reduce swelling. After about a week you will come to the clinic for a check-up and we will remove the stitches.
You should not bend, lift or exert yourself physically for the first few days. You also may not wear lenses for the first 2 weeks and makeup for the first 3 weeks.
Most people take two weeks off from work. Keep in mind that scars will be visible at first. The scars did not mature until after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved then will likely remain. Protect the scar from the sun during this period.

Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with a MACS elevator. In the vast majority of situations, this is not serious and is easily remedied. There is a small chance of injury to the facial nerve. This happens rarely and is usually transient in these rare cases. Read more about the possible risks and complications of plastic surgery here.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
