Lipofilling in the face
MOOI Clinic offers an alternative to traditional filler treatment: lipofilling the face with your own body fat. Facial lipofilling can fill sunken cheeks, loss of volume and deep lines in the face, thus reducing wrinkles. More and more people are choosing this method with their body’s own fat tissue. With lipofilling, we insert fat cells from, say, the abdomen, legs or hips into the face to increase volume. With lipofilling, we achieve beautiful and, above all, natural results. We’ll be happy to inform you in detail what your options are, what to expect and what about recovery and possible complications. Schedule a consultation.
The lipofilling treatment
Liposuction removes fat elsewhere in the body from areas such as the abdomen, legs or hips. Next, the fat cells are injected into the face with cannulas. Lipofilling treatment leaves hardly any scars. Because work is done with the body’s own material, the risk of complications is limited. Rejection does not occur after lipofilling treatment. However, some of the fat may be lost because it is not absorbed at the injected site. The procedure generally takes place under general anesthesia and lasts one to two hours. For small amounts of lipofilling, it’s also sometimes possible to have this done under local anesthesia at the MOOI clinic.
Aftercare and recovery
You can usually go home the same day after the procedure, after being checked by the plastic surgeon. You’re not allowed to drive yourself, so plan in advance how you will get home safely.
After treatment, people don’t have many pain symptoms, although some swelling or bruising may occur. This usually resolves in 1 to 2 weeks.
During the first week, we recommend eating soft foods and taking small bites. You usually suffer the most from the areas where liposuction was performed as these areas can be sensitive. The feeling in your face remains normal. At first, decreased sensitivity may occur. This is almost always temporary.
It’s important to take it easy for the first few weeks and to not lift heavy things or exert yourself so that the transplanted fat can grow in properly.
In most cases, you can:
- Return to work after 2 weeks (note: no heavy physical work).
- After 6 weeks, you can slowly begin exercising again and are likely to be fully active again.
- After 8 weeks, you’ll see the final results.
Before and after pictures
Below are two before and after photos of facial lipofilling treatment. It’s good to know that both women also combined the treatment with a MACS lift that primarily eliminates wrinkles on the cheeks and the nasolabial fold. At the cheekbones, it is easy to see that volume has been reintroduced. The area around the eyes and forehead was also treated.
Good to know
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. The chances of this are small, usually not serious and easily treated.
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. This can reduce the ingrowth of the transplanted fat cells. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. It’s important that the plastic surgeon is aware of any diseases you have experienced in the past and/or any medications you’re taking.
