Moles, or naevi, are accumulations of pigment cells in the skin. Want to have a mole removed? We’re happy to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. During a consultation with a plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht, we’ll provide you with all the necessary information so you can make an informed decision.
When to have a mole removed?
Moles can occur anywhere on the body and vary in color, shape and size. Usually completely harmless, but in rare cases they can also be malignant. In the latter case, surgical intervention is required as soon as possible. However, even if nothing is wrong, a person may want to have a mole removed.

The consultation from A to Z
You will come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss the procedure. We also schedule a consultation for mole removal so we can properly talk to you about this process. During the consultation, you will speak with a plastic surgeon about everything from general information about before and after care, to more specific details. We also take photos for your medical records today.
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The procedure
An unwanted mole, fatty bump (lipoma) or other spot can be removed by excision on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia. Scars from this are usually barely visible, if at all. We check the removed skin in the laboratory for abnormal cells.
After the treatment, you’ll be given a cream for the scar to take home. Once the wound is closed and the scabs are gone you may begin applying scar cream. This is how you promote beautiful healing.
Aftercare and recovery
The scarring process involves 3 stages. The total process can take up to 2 years. It’s important to know that you can take action for up to 2 years to make your scar look more beautiful.
During check-up consultations, we’re frequently asked what cream we recommend to treat scars. That makes sense, but there are many creams listed as “the best for treating scars”. So, what is the best treatment for a scar scientifically? In this article on scar treatment we explain this.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a small chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily treated.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
Experience of other men and women
Your desire and reasons for having a mole removed is personal. It’s very important to us that you feel good about your choices. Other clients who have also had moles removed at MOOI Clinic may have faced the same choices and doubts as you are now. So be sure to read their experiences at
