The intervention
An unwanted mole, fatty bump (lipoma) or other spot can be removed by excision on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia. Scars from this are usually hardly visible, if at all. We check the removed skin in the laboratory for abnormal cells.
After the treatment, you will be given a caring cream for the scar to take home. Once the wound is closed and the scabs are gone you may begin applying scar cream. This is how you promote beautiful healing.
Aftercare and recovery
The process of scarring has 3 stages. The total process can take up to 2 years. Here it is important to know that you can take action up to 2 years to make your scar look more beautiful.
During checkup consultations, we are frequently asked what cream we recommend to treat scars with. That makes sense. There are many creams listed as “the best for treating scars. But what is scientifically the best treatment for a scar? We would like to explain this further in this article on scar treatment.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a small chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily remedied.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside.
