Remove bump on your nose? You can do this
Maybe it’s been bothering you for a long time, that annoying bump on your nose. This makes your nose look crooked and it especially affects your side view. The size and shape of the nose largely determine how you look. After all, your nose is in the middle of your face. Therefore, a bump on your nose is often perceived as unattractive. It can adversely affect your self-confidence. How do you get the bulge, and more importantly, what can you do about it? Our plastic surgeon Andrzej Piatkowski de Grzymala and cosmetic doctor Rachel Dijkstra provide the answer!
How do you get it?
The shape of your nose is formed by bone. A bump on your nose sometimes occurs because a bone has an overgrowth. As a result, more bone becomes visible on the bridge of the nose and is no longer even. Another cause of a bump comes from a buildup of cartilage on the nose. Because your nose is in the center of your face, such a deviation can be quite noticeable. Therefore, instead of a bump, we sometimes speak of a nose bridge that is too high. Unfortunately, this will not go away on its own. Indeed, cartilage always continues to grow very slowly.
What can you do about the bulge?
We understand that you can be quite bothered by such an anomaly on your nose. You may experience less self-confidence as a result. We can help you with this. In fact, there are several treatments available to remove or reduce the lump on your nose. In fact, this can be done even without major surgery using fillers. Sometimes, however, it may be necessary to correct the bone and or cartilage with a rhinoplasty. You can always contact us for a consultation. In doing so, we can work with you to see which treatment is best for you.
Fillers, a rhinoplasty without surgery
For very minor corrections, rhinoplasty is possible without surgery. There is then a minimal bulge at the top of the nose, where the use of fillers may be a solution. In that case, a filler can be injected just above and below the bump, making the bump less visible. Any curves and or dents are thus eliminated. This gives you an even and straight nose bridge. The procedure is of short duration and the recovery period is also minimal. Temporary fillers are used for this purpose. In fact, permanent fillers are banned because they can cause serious complications including inflammation. The disadvantage of temporary fillers, however, is that they disappear again after about a year, so the treatment must be repeated regularly to maintain the results.
Rhinoplasty to remove the bump
Fillers may not be an option for you. The lump is a little larger than can be eliminated with a filler or you don’t see the point of repeating the fillers. Repeated nose fillers can also be more expensive in the long run than a true rhinoplasty.
A decision may then be made to remove the bump on your nose through rhinoplasty. What is important in rhinoplasty is to see if there is harmony in the face. In other words, does the nose fit the face? In addition, it is always very important to find out what the expectation of a rhinoplasty is, whether the face will change a lot, or whether only subtle changes will be visible. We discuss that during a consultation. During surgery, the plastic surgeon removes the excess cartilage, eliminating the lump. The treatment is a relatively simple procedure but still must always be performed under general anesthesia.
No two noses are the same, which is why there are many different rhinoplasty procedures. With that comes various techniques to correct the nose. Depending on your nose and wishes, the plastic surgeon can best advise you on the possible corrections and techniques. It takes a while for the results of the surgery to show because the cartilage needs to recover. After the recovery period, the results do last.
