When to have a forehead lift?
Many people come to MOOI Clinic for an eye lift, or eyelid surgery. Aging skin causes excess skin around the eyes, and also the eyebrows to sag and forehead wrinkles to develop. This causes eye-related symptoms like extra pressure and fatigue. Additionally, eyebrows that sit at a lower position can make you appear tired, angry or gloomy. This can also cause extra pressure on your eyes and eyelids.
Filling forehead wrinkles with a filler
Forehead wrinkles can be filled using a filler, but this usually won’t address low-hanging eyebrows. In addition, filler always provides only a temporary effect, lasting from 8 to 12 months. There are two ways to treat the low position of the eyebrows: a direct brow lift (corrects only the position of the eyebrows) or a forehead lift (corrects both the position of the eyebrows and forehead wrinkles. To correct forehead wrinkles and low-hanging eyebrows, an endoscopic or open forehead lift may be the solution.
When to have a brow lift?
Both a brow lift and a forehead lift focus on lifting the eyebrows, but there are differences.

Combination with chemical peel
After a forehead lift, certain wrinkles are greatly reduced or removed. However, this doesn’t mean that your skin will result in looking its best. For example, if you’ve smoked a lot or had sun damage, you may benefit from a chemical peel to rejuvenate your skin. At MOOI Clinic, you can opt for a deep chemical peel that penetrate into the lower layers of the skin (called the dermis). Our chemical peels contain chemicals like trichloroacetic acid and a substance called phenol, which is why these treatments should only be done by a doctor. Ask about these treatments during your consultation.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your forehead lift. During the consultation, you’ll speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts about everything from general information about the before and after care, to specific details like where the incisions will be (neatly in the hairline). In all cases, we provide a barely noticeable scar. The plastic surgeon will discuss with you whether a forehead lift is the right procedure to address your concerns.
After the consultation, you’ll be aware of everything concerning the surgery: you’ll receive honest advice from us about the expected result, risks, recovery and costs.
On the day of the consultation, we also take photos for your medical records.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The forehead lift
An endoscopic (or open) forehead lift is done under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. The area to be operated on is first marked off and then disinfected and anesthetized. Through three to six small incisions in the hairline, special instruments are used to loosen the skin from the forehead to the eyebrows, and then pulled upward. Tightening the bony membrane raises the eyebrows to the proper height. The operation proceeds like keyhole surgery. Thanks to the endoscopic technique, the scars are so small that this procedure can also be used on people who are balding. In people with high foreheads, the open technique is also used. With this, not only can a brow lift be performed, but the hairline can also be lowered.
Aftercare and recovery
Usually you can go home the same day. A tulle bandage is applied which helps to stop swelling. Sometimes you’ll need a thin drain after surgery to stop the accumulation of wound fluid and blood. That lasts one to two days. Cooling goggles are provided to counteract swollen eyelids.
For the first two weeks after surgery, the face is still swollen and blue. It is necessary to take it easy and use the cooling goggles regularly. The swelling disappears after one to two weeks. Sutures are removed after two weeks; if screws are placed, they are removed after 3 weeks. Scars along the hair scalp become lighter and lighter in color. You can already see results almost immediately.
The scars are invisible at first glance even during your recovery and healing. They will fall right along the hairline and the natural folds of your skin.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with an endoscopic or open forehead lift. In the vast majority of cases, this is not serious and is easily treated. There is a small chance of injury to the facial nerve. This happens rarely and is usually transient in these rare cases. QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.

What does a forehead lift cost?
After the consultation with the plastic surgeon, you’ll know exactly what your forehead lift will cost.
Please note that it’s not possible to claim expenses for treatments from health insurance. MOOI only performs procedures for uninsured care.
If you do want to qualify for reimbursement, we’re happy to refer you to one of our hospitals. For this you need a referral from the family doctor. We recommend consulting the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy.
