A BEAUTIFUL and open facial expression
MOOI Clinic likes to give you back your open mind, so you can feel like your younger self again. After the brow elevator, not only will you get a more energetic look, but you will also feel more energetic because you can now stop lifting your eyebrows. Performing a brow elevator is a minor procedure for our plastic surgeons, but we understand that it’s quite a big step for you. As you consider having your eyebrows lifted, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course, we will fully inform you during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
When to have a brow elevator?
A brow elevator is performed when the brow has sagged too low due to gravity and loss of skin elasticity. For example, this may cause the eyes to not open properly and you may often raise your eyebrows. Sagged eyebrows make you feel tired and also make you more likely to be asked if you are tired, or perhaps even angry.
Types of eyebrow lifts
There are several ways to elevator eyebrows. Depending on your face and problem, we look for the best solution.
Direct and lateral brow elevator
In a direct and lateral brow elevator, a little skin above the brow is removed. This can be over the entire width of the brow (direct or classic brow elevator) or only on the side (lateral brow elevator). The choice of which of these two treatments is best depends on the exact position of the eyebrow and your wishes. One disadvantage of a direct or lateral brow elevator is that the scar is slightly more visible because it comes just above the hairline of the brow. Therefore, this technique is often used when there are wrinkles on the forehead, allowing the scar to fall into an existing wrinkle.
Eyebrow elevator according to Fogli
When only the side of the eyebrow is low and we want to avoid the scar directly above the eyebrow, the Fogli technique can also be used. Again, only the side of the eyebrow is lifted but the scar is placed in the hairline making it less noticeable.
Eyebrow elevators with Botox® or fillers?
A brow elevator can also be achieved to a limited extent through the use ofBotox® and/or fillers. We would be happy to see if this could also be a possible treatment for you.
Eyebrow elevator and/or eyelid surgery?
Eyelid surgery involves removing the excess skin under the eyebrow. In a brow elevator, this is done above the eyebrow, raising the eyebrows higher. Sometimes people come in asking for eyelid surgery but this is not always possible if the eyebrows are too low. If so, we more often recommend an eyebrow elevator instead of or in conjunction with eyelid surgery. We will discuss with you what results you can expect and what suits you best.
Eyebrow elevator or forehead elevator?
The brow elevator is a minor procedure performed under local anesthesia by the specialist. We perform a forehead elevator under general anesthesia in an operating room. The forehead elevator not only elevators the eyebrows, but also the rest of the skin on your forehead.

The eyebrow elevator
A brow elevator takes place under local anesthesia so you won’t feel anything. The area to be operated on is first marked off and then disinfected and locally anesthetized. The plastic surgeon removes excess skin; a small incision is made directly above the eyebrow or in the hairline. Treatment is tailored to each client individually so that we achieve the best possible results. This procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the treatment and check-up. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before the procedure, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, the area around your eyebrows and eyelids will be sensitive and possibly swollen or blue. This is quite normal. You will be given a cold pack or ice goggles to reduce swelling. Also, cool regularly at home to combat swelling. After about a week you will come to the clinic for a check-up and we will remove the stitches.
Most people take a week off from work. After 6 weeks, you are usually fully recovered. The small scars only mature after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved then will likely remain. Protect the scar from the sun during this period. After 3 months, you come to MOOI Clinic for a final check-up.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily remedied. Your forehead can sometimes be a little numb. Usually this is not serious and is easily remedied. The eyelids and forehead may remain swollen for a bit longer as a result.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
