The contours of your MOOI face restored.
At MOOI Clinic, our ultimate goal is to bring a smile to your face when you look at your reflection in the mirror with confidence. After this facelift, you’ll eliminate the wrinkles and sagging cheeks that make you look older than you would like. Since you’re considering a MACS lift, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. During a consultation with a plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht, we’ll provide you with all the necessary information so you can make an informed decision.
What kind of facelift is a MACS lift?
MACS stands for Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift. We perform this lift very often because it’s much less invasive than a full facelift. With a the MACS lift, subcutaneous connective tissue is lifted along with the skin. To do this, we make minimal incisions at the edge of the hairline and in front of the ear; then we lift the cheeks, jawline and part of the neck.
How is this different from a classic facelift?
The MACS facelift and the classic facelift treat the same area: the midface and jawline. However, the technique used to achieve the end result is different.
When should you have a MACS lift?
While some may see wrinkles as endearing or unique, many individuals prefer to diminish their presence rather than embrace them. A MACS lift is specifically designed to restore the area around your jawline and cheeks, so that the contours of your face are MOOI visible again. It also addresses the wrinkle or fold between the corner of the nose and mouth. Ultimately, you’ll look younger after surgery because the skin and subcutaneous tissue are lifted.
At MOOI, we offer a variety of procedures to achieve a more beautiful, younger face. Our priority is to preserve the distinctive characteristics that make each person unique. With our expertise and knowledge, you have come to the right place at MOOI.
Combination with eyelid surgery
A MACS lift is often combined with eyelid surgery to achieve the desired result. Discuss your needs during the consultation with the surgeon. The MACS lift and eyelid surgery are performed during the same surgery, under general anesthesia.
Combination with chemical peel
After a facelift, certain wrinkles are greatly reduced or removed. However, this doesn’t mean that your skin overall appears its best. This could be because you’ve smoked a lot or have sun damage. In this case, you can use a chemical peel to renew your skin. At MOOI Clinic, you can opt for a deep chemical peel that penetrate into the lower layers of the skin (called the dermis). MOOI Clinic’s chemical peels contain chemicals like trichloroacetic acid and a substance called phenol, which means these treatment should only be performed by a doctor. Ask about these treatments during your consultation.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your MACS lift. During the consultation, you’ll speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts about everything from general information about the before and after care, to the details of where the incision will be (neatly in the hairline along the ear/sideburn). In all cases, we provide a barely noticeable scar. Facelifts come in many forms and there are different techniques that can be used by our plastic surgeons. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will tell you more about this and give you advice based on your skin and concerns.
After the consultation, you’ll be up to date on everything regarding your future facelift; you’ll receive our honest advice on the expected results, to risks, recovery and exact costs. On the day of the consultation, we also take photos for your records.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The MACS facelift
A MACS facelift takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. With the MACS lift, an incision is made from the hairline along the ear to a bit behind your ear. The skin is detached from the lower layer and the subcutaneous tissue is lifted and tightened with surgical wires. With the MACS lift, the plastic surgeon also removes excess skin. The scar falls neatly into the hairline and is barely visible after it is completely healed. This procedure takes about 2.5 hours.
If the surgery goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the surgery and with the surgeon’s approval. You’re not allowed to drive yourself so plan in advance how you will get home safely. Prior to your surgery, you’re well informed about our aftercare and recovery instructions.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you’ll receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It’s important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, the treated area is likely to be swollen and blue – this is quite normal. You can use a cold pack to reduce swelling. After about a week, you’ll come to the clinic for a check-up and we’ll remove the stitches.
You should not bend, lift or exert yourself physically for the first few days. You also may not wear contact lenses for the first 2 weeks and makeup for the first 3 weeks.
Most people take two weeks off from work. Keep in mind that scars will be visible at first. The scars do not mature until after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved at that point will likely remain. Protect the scar from the sun during this period.

Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with a MACS lift. In the vast majority of cases, this is not serious and is easily treated. There’s a small chance of injury to the facial nerve. This happens rarely and is usually transient in these rare cases. Read more about the possible risks and complications of plastic surgery here.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
Experience of others
Your desire and reasons to do something about your appearance is personal. It’s very important to us that you feel good about your choices and so we also give you time to decide what you’re most comfortable with. Both men and women have had a facelift at MOOI clinic. Be sure to read their experiences and check out our reviews at ZorgkaartNederland.nl (the largest independent experience site for Dutch healthcare).
