Fine-tuning the contours of a MOOI face
A smile on your face when you look at yourself in the mirror is what the MOOI clinic is all about. After this mini facelift, also called an S-lift, the contours of your jawline will be clearly visible again, without sagging skin. As you consider an S-lift, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course, we will fully inform you during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
What kind of facelift is an S-lift?
The S-lift is the least invasive elevator sometimes used in place of the more extensive treatment such as a facelift. We make an S-shaped incision near the ears that allows us to elevator the skin tissue. No connective tissue is lifted as in the MACS elevator. The S-lift primarily addresses wrinkles on the cheeks.
When to have an S-lift?
Wrinkles may be considered characteristic or charming, but many people would rather lose them than get rid of them. A mini facelift is particularly suitable for people with some wrinkles on the cheeks and who want their skin a little tighter. The S-lift does not include wrinkles around the nose and mouth, in which case a MACS elevator or classic facelift is more appropriate.
At MOOI, we offer a range of solutions for a more beautiful, younger face. In doing so, we would like to preserve the traits that make each person unique. That requires knowledge and expertise, and for that, you’ve come to the right place at MOOI.
Combination with eyelid surgery
An S-lift is often combined with eyelid surgery to achieve the desired result. Discuss your needs during the consultation. The S-lift and eyelid surgery are then performed during the same treatment.
Combination with laser treatment
After a facelift, certain wrinkles are greatly reduced or removed. However, this does not mean that your skin is in good condition. For example, if you have smoked a lot or suffered sun damage, you can use a laser treatment to renew your skin, such as the BBL HEROic treatment. At MOOI clinic, you can get deep laser peels that penetrate into the lower layers of skin (called the dermis or dermis). Laser treatments are performed at MOOI clinic by plastic surgeons and/or specialized skin therapists. Ask about these treatments during a consultation.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your mini facelift. During the consultation, you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts. From general information about the before and after care, to the details such as where the incision will be (neatly in the hairline along the ear / sideburn). There are many different types of facelifts and techniques. The plastic surgeon will advise you on this based on your skin and problem. We are also taking the photos for your medical records today.
After the consultation, you will be up to date on everything regarding your future facelift. You will receive honest advice from us about the expected outcome, risks, recovery and exact costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The facelift
A mini facelift takes place under local anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. In the S-lift, an incision is made from the hairline/bakekbill along the ear in the shape of an S. From here, the skin is lifted and excess skin is removed. The scar falls neatly into the hairline and is barely visible after complete healing. This procedure takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the treatment and check-up. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, the treated area is likely to be swollen and blue. This is quite normal. Cooling briefly every hour with a coldpack will help stop the swelling. After a week you will come to the clinic for a check-up and we will remove the stitches.
You should not bend, lift or exert yourself physically for the first few days. You also may not wear lenses for the first 2 weeks and makeup for the first 3 weeks. Avoid hard foods that require considerable chewing. After a week, you can slowly build up the food hardness again.
Most people take at least one week, but preferably two weeks off from work. Keep in mind that scars will be visible at first. The scars did not mature until after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved then will likely remain. Protect the scar from the sun during this period.

Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing with an S-lift. In the vast majority of situations, this is not serious and is easily remedied. There is a small chance of injury to the facial nerve. This happens rarely and is usually transient in these rare cases. Read more about the possible risks and complications of plastic surgery here.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
