The scar correction
Usually an incision is made on both sides of the scar and the plastic surgeon removes the old scar and then reattaches the skin neatly. Scars that are very thick can also be treated with corticosteroids, pressure therapy, silicone film or radiation. This will reduce the thickness of the scar but keep it the same width.
The scar may be red and swollen and feel painful or itchy for a while after treatment. It is important to avoid tension on the wound.
Stay out of the sun with the scar for the first time and apply factor 50+ when you go outside.
Aftercare and recovery
The process of scarring has 3 stages. The total process can take up to 2 years. Here it is important to know that you can take action up to 2 years to make your scar look more beautiful.
During check-up consultations after surgery, we are frequently asked which cream we recommend to treat scars with. That makes sense. There are many creams listed as “the best for treating scars. But what is scientifically the best treatment for a scar? We would like to explain this further in this article on scar treatment.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a risk of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. In the vast majority of situations, this is not serious and is easily remedied.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
