As you consider breast augmentation with breast implants, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course, we will fully inform you during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
When to have breast augmentation with implants?
Your breasts bother you, or you are insecure about them because they are relatively small, droopy or uneven. A breast augmentation can then be a solution that you are going to enjoy for the rest of your life. Sometimes breast augmentation is combined with a breast elevator when your breasts are very droopy due to weight loss or pregnancy, for example. During the consultation, we not only look at your desired cup size (the volume), but also the shape and desired position of your breasts.
Your choice
No one can decide for you how you feel and how you think about your breasts. What is small for you may be fine for someone else. What you really don’t like about yourself, another person usually thinks isn’t so bad. At MOOI Clinic, we pay attention to your story. Our mission is not so much to make you more MOOI, but to make yourself feel MOOI.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your breast augmentation. Write down your wishes and questions in advance so you can ask them at the consultation. During the consultation, you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation. From general information about before and after care, to the details such as the breast implants and where the incision will be (it can be in the fold of skin under the breast or via an incision in the armpit or next to the nipple). In all cases, we provide a barely noticeable scar.
You have the opportunity during the consultation to see yourself in 3D. This is a 3D simulation of your own body, before and after the breast augmentation. You can thus better estimate the possible result and also compare the different breast implants.
During the consultation you can also try on extensive breast prostheses and we will see what fits your body best. For this, the doctor also measures the current breasts. It is very important to us that you feel good about your choice of prosthesis. Any doubts? If so, please let us know.
We are also taking the photos for your medical records today. After the consultation, you will be aware of everything about your future breast augmentation: of our honest advice, expected results, risks, recovery and costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The breast surgery
Breast augmentation takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. The anesthesiologist will put you under anesthesia in the OR. The prosthesis is placed under the breast tissue or partially under the breast muscle and the incisions are sutured. The procedure takes one to two hours. After surgery, you will be put on a sports bra and taken to the recovery room.
You can usually go home the same day after surgery. If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home after checking. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, your breasts will feel tense and perhaps painful. That feeling lessens within a few days. Scars may be temporarily red and swollen after the procedure. It is important to take it easy for the first few weeks and not lift or exert yourself heavily.
You will come for regular check-ups at MOOI Clinic. It is important to wear an optimally supportive bra immediately; we will inform you about this. After two weeks, we remove the stitches. Even after surgery and outside of checkups, we are always here for you if you have questions! At our clinic, lines are short and we will help you as quickly as possible.
In most cases, you can return to work after two weeks. After six weeks, you can slowly begin exercising again and are likely to be fully active again. Read more about aftercare and living rules after breast augmentation here.
The breast implants we place
At MOOI Clinic our plastic surgeons choose prostheses of the brand Motiva (silicone), B-lite or for
water-filled breast implants
. These prostheses have been extensively tested and have optimal shape retention with a natural feel. During the consultation, we take extensive time to fit and discuss the breast implants: what types there are, what are the placement options and the recommended volume.
If you want to enlarge your breasts naturally, you can also have
breast lipofilling
consider. An added benefit of this technique is that it moves excess fat from unwanted locations to the breasts. In many cases, it is an excellent alternative when you do not want breast implants.
BREAST IMPLANT REGISTRATION
Important: All of our breast implants are registered in the DBIR quality registry. Through the DBIR system, plastic surgeons in the Netherlands lead the world in the national registration of breast implants. With this registration system, the manufacturers, the NVPC and the registering plastic surgeons are taking responsibility to ensure the quality of care for women with breast implants. At www.implant aatcheck.nl you can find your breast implants by the serial number of your implant.
As of Jan. 1, 2019, the Care Quality, Complaints and Disputes Act is in effect. Since then, all implants have also been registered in the National Implant Register (LIR). Should a safety risk arise around an implant, the LIR lists which individuals are wearing the implant.
Placement in front or behind the muscle?
The choice of implant (round or anatomical) plays an important role when deciding whether to place implants in front or partly behind the pectoral muscle. There is evidence that placing the prosthesis behind the pectoral muscle (dual plane) is less likely to result in capsular contracture, but is often slightly more sensitive than an implant in front of the muscle during the first few weeks. A disadvantage of breast muscle implants is that the implant is not stopped by the breast muscle, and the breasts may droop more quickly as a result. However, the procedure is slightly less sensitive immediately after surgery and can sometimes give a better breast elevator.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily remedied.
After the placement of a breast prosthesis, the body has the natural reaction to form a layer of connective tissue around the prosthesis; called a capsule. Sometimes the capsule contracts and the breasts become hard and unnaturally round. Unfortunately, no cause for this has yet been found. There is also a chance that a prosthesis will leak. After 10 years, this probability is higher.
All risks regarding breast augmentation with prostheses are described in the a “package insert.” You should read this document carefully before surgery.

Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.

What does breast augmentation cost?

We have all-in prices. After the consultation with the plastic surgeon, you will know exactly what your breast augmentation will cost. The price depends, among other things, on the implants you choose.
Please note that it is not possible to claim expenses for treatments from health insurance. MOOI only performs procedures for uninsured care.
If you do want to qualify for reimbursement, we are happy to refer you to one of our hospitals. For this you need a referral from the family doctor. We recommend consulting the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy.
