From what age is ear correction possible?
Protruding ears, or floppy ears, are common. It is the most common ear defect, and having floppy ears can lead to lower self-esteem. Especially when a child is bothered by it, by being named by other children, for example. We can correct floppy ears from the age of 5-6 years. Most insurance companies reimburse for treatment. This treatment in children takes place under anesthesia in the hospital.
When an ear correction in adults?
Even in adults, the ears may be off the head to such an extent that it leads to low self-esteem and insecurity. In adults, flapoor surgery is generally no longer reimbursed. If the surgery is not covered you will treat in our own clinic.
Some cases involve a drooping or torn-out earlobe. This can be remedied through an earlobe correction.
Ear correction without surgery?
Floppy ears can be corrected in babies without surgery. This is only possible in newborn babies up to 6 weeks of age. Through the Earwell system, the ears are corrected without surgery.

The flap correction
In children, we prefer ear surgery under general anesthesia. In adults, it can also be done under local anesthesia, but full anesthesia is also possible. The anesthesiologist will then put you under anesthesia in the OR. During the procedure, an incision is made at the back of the ear and the cartilage is exposed. The shape of the cartilage determines the shape of the ear. During an ear correction, the cartilage is bent into the correct shape. This is secured with sutures. After the surgery, the incision at the back is stitched up again. The procedure takes about 1.5 hours.
You can usually go home the same day after surgery. If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home after checking. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. The surgery is generally not very painful. Immediately after surgery, you will wear a head bandage that will remain in place for one week.
It is important to take it easy the first week and make sure there is no pressure on your face. After a week, you will come for a check-up at MOOI Clinic. The bandage is removed and replaced with a hairband to protect the ears.
In most cases, you can return to work after one to two weeks, provided it is not physically demanding work. After six weeks, you can slowly begin exercising again and are likely to be fully active again.

Risks
As with any surgery, there is a small chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily remedied. Complete symmetry is pursued but can never be guaranteed 100%.
MOOI Clinic recommends that you read the aesthetic package insert carefully. It is designed to give you the additional information you need to help you make an informed decision.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
