Local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia?
For each treatment we indicate whether we perform it with local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia. If you are very reluctant to undergo surgery with local anesthesia or have another reason to choose sedation or general anesthesia, we will be happy to discuss your options and choose the most appropriate solution.
We perform procedures with local anesthesia in the treatment rooms of our MOOI clinic. For procedures under full anesthesia, we choose the safety of a fully equipped operating room. Needless to say, our own operating room and hospital operating rooms meet the standards and requirements for safe and quality surgery.
What are the differences?
There are different types of anesthesia (sedation). With all types of anesthesia, you won’t feel anything from the procedure. However, there are differences between the types of anesthesia we use at MOOI clinic.
Local anesthesia
Local anesthesia, or local anesthesia, involves numbing a small part of your body so that you don’t feel anything from the treatment. However, you are fully conscious (awake) and also consciously receive the treatment. Local anesthesia usually consists of one injection. Treatments with local anesthesia include eyelid corrections, ear corrections, labia corrections, nipple corrections and the less invasive elevators in the face. Do you find it exciting? And you don’t want to experience any of the treatment? Then you can opt for anesthesia for some treatments.
Sedation (an intoxication)
Sedation is another form of anesthesia, better known as an “intoxication. It is a sleep aid combined with a painkiller. With sedation, we lower your consciousness and you may even fall asleep. Your body does continue to work on its own and your breathing remains normal. You will experience much less of the surgery, and most people do not remember anything about the procedure. Sedation is administered through an IV. Discuss your wishes during the consultation with the plastic surgeon. Would you prefer to be treated under sedation instead of local anesthesia? Then there is a surcharge, you can find this at the bottom of our rates page.
General anesthesia
Larger treatments such as facelifts, tummy tucks, breast lifts and contour corrections are all performed under general anesthesia. With this form of anesthesia, your entire body is numb and you are in a deep sleep. You don’t experience or feel anything at all from the surgery. Your body is supplied with oxygen through a breathing tube in your throat. Surgery under general anesthesia is always performed in our operating room (OR). Nowhere are you watched more closely than in an operating room. Before medication is administered through an IV, you are hooked up to our monitoring equipment. After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery room, where your body will function independently again.
