Botulinum toxin is better known by the brand name“Botox®” from Allergan. ‘Bocouture®’ is a new, purified form of Botulinum toxin. At MOOI Clinic, we offer both products at our private clinic in Maastricht. We’re happy to advise you on choosing between the two. Schedule a consultation.
What does Botox® do?
Botulinum toxin is the active ingredient in the injectable that causes a muscle to become paralyzed, or frozen. So it doesn’t fill wrinkles, but often it gives the face a more pleasing look by allowing certain muscles in the face to relax. The effect of Botulinum toxin is 3 to 4 months.
Fine wrinkles usually disappear after an initial Botox® treatment. Deeper wrinkles require repeated treatments or a combination of treatments with a filler.
Reduce wrinkles
Botox® is most commonly used for forehead wrinkles and frown lines. It can also treat crow’s feet and small wrinkles around the eyes very well. Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat laugh lines on the nose, called Bunny lines. A Gummy smile, can be treated if you find that your gums are too visible when smiling. This can be fixed without changing your facial expression.

Botox® for excessive sweating
Excessive perspiration (sweating) of the armpits and hands can also be effectively treated with botulinum toxin. The effects of a botulinum toxin treatment lasts six to 12 months.

The Botox® treatment
The drug is injected with very thin needles into the muscles that cause the wrinkles. The treatment takes about 15 minutes; no anesthesia is necessary. Afterwards, the skin is somewhat red and swollen. You can already see results after just a few days.
