Finding your own breasts beautiful again and feeling beautiful is what the MOOI clinic is all about. As you consider a breast elevator, we’d like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course, we will fully inform you during a consultation with the plastic surgeon at our private clinic located in Maastricht.
When to have a breast elevator?
You are bothered by your drooping breasts and your nipples are no longer where they used to be. Due to weight loss or pregnancy, your breasts have changed and become saggy. It may well be that your nipples hang below your breast fold. A breast elevator may then be the solution to say goodbye to your drooping breasts for good.
A breast elevator is also increasingly performed on women who have (or need to have) their breast implants permanently removed. To prevent very droopy breasts after the removal of breast prostheses, the breast is lifted.
A breast elevator can be performed in several ways. Of course, which method is best for you depends on the shape of your breasts and how droopy they are. Breast elevator combined with other surgery
A breast elevator can be combined with a breast reduction or just breast augmentation. Breast augmentation can be performed in several ways. For example, there is an option to fill the breasts with your own body fat or with breast implants. Breast implants or your own fat add volume. To get a nice look, a nipple reduction or relocation, is also an option. The advantage is that you only have one recovery period. During the consultation, we will discuss your wishes and how you would like to see your breasts after surgery. The plastic surgeon will advise you on the options for achieving this result.
Extreme weight loss?
Have breasts lifted after extreme weight loss? If you suffer a lot from excess skin or drooping breasts, you can undergo a breast correction for this at MOOI Clinic. Check in advance if this surgery is covered by your health insurance company. If you are reimbursed for treatment, we are happy to refer you to the hospital. MOOI Clinic only performs procedures for uninsured care.
A special technique that we can apply to women with a lot of weight loss is Rubin’s. In this process, the excess tissue on the side of the breast is used to provide padding to the breast. In this, the scar does continue on the side of the breast but falls below the bra.

The consultation from A to Z
You come to MOOI Clinic in Maastricht to discuss your breast elevator. Write down your wishes and questions in advance so you can ask them at the consultation. During the consultation, you will speak with the plastic surgeon who specializes in breast elevators. From general information about before and after care, to details such as where the scar will be. The scar depends on the size of the elevator and can range from a scar around the areola to a scar similar to a breast reduction. There is usually less scarring when the breast elevator is combined with breast augmentation. There are several breast elevator techniques and together with the plastic surgeon you will discuss which technique best suits your breasts and wishes.
During the consultation, you may also try on breast prostheses and we will see what best suits your body. For this, the doctor also measures the current breasts. It is very important to us that you feel good about your choice. Any doubts? If so, please let us know.
We are also taking the photos for your medical records today. After the consultation, you’ll be up to date on everything about your future breast augmentation: from our honest advice on expected results, risks, recovery and costs. We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum.
An initial consultation involves a €50 consultation fee, which will be deducted from the treatment price.
The breast surgery
The breast elevator takes place under general anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing. The anesthesiologist will put you under anesthesia in the OR. Where the incision is made for the elevator depends on how droopy your breasts are. The plastic surgeon will discuss this during the consultation. Sometimes during surgery we place a thin tube (drain) in the breasts to ensure that wound fluid is drained properly. The procedure takes 1.5 to two hours. After surgery, you will immediately be put on a post-operative compression bra and taken to the recovery room.
You can usually go home the same day after surgery. If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home after checking. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery, your breasts will feel tense and perhaps painful. That feeling lessens within a few days. Scars may be temporarily red and swollen after the procedure. It is important to take it easy for the first few weeks and not lift or exert yourself heavily.
You will come for regular check-ups at MOOI Clinic. We remove any drains after a few days. It is important to wear an optimally supportive bra immediately; we will inform you about this. After two weeks, we remove the stitches. Even after surgery and outside of checkups, we are always here for you if you have questions! At our clinic, lines are short and we will help you as quickly as possible.
In most cases, you can return to work after two / three weeks. After six weeks, you can slowly begin exercising again and are likely to be fully active again.
The scars may remain highly visible and red for several months. We give you comprehensive advice and tips for taking care of your scars. Scars should not receive sunlight for the first year.
Risks
As with any surgery, there is a chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. This is usually not serious and easily remedied. Sometimes painful, subcutaneous thickening can occur. In most cases, these disappear by themselves over time. If that doesn’t happen, we can remove them surgically.
In a few cases, numbness of the nipples occurs and in very rare situations, loss of the nipple occurs.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.

A breast elevator can be performed in different ways, which is why there are different prices. After the consultation with the plastic surgeon, you will know exactly which technique is right for you and what your breast elevator will cost.
Please note that it is not possible to claim expenses for treatments from health insurance. MOOI only performs procedures for uninsured care.
If you do want to qualify for reimbursement, we are happy to refer you to one of our hospitals. For this you need a referral from the family doctor. We recommend consulting the terms and conditions of your health insurance policy.
