Another MOOI and fresh look, as you had before.
A smile on your face when you look at yourself in the mirror, that’s what the MOOI clinic is all about. After the upper eyelidcorrection of your overhanging eyelids (also called blepharoplasty or eye elevator called) you have a fresh and open outlook and that’s how you feel. Performing a aboveeyelid correction is a minor procedure for our plastic surgeons of about 30 minutes, but we understand that it is quite a big step for you. Because you need an eyelift we would like to tell you what your options are and what steps you can take. Of course we inform you fully during a consultation with the plastic surgeon in our private clinic located in Maastricht.
Cause of drooping eyelids
Sooner or later, almost everyone experiences drooping eyelids. As we age, our skin slackens. Depending on your face and skin, the skin between the eyebrow and your eyes may droop. In some cases, this is so bad that this skin falls over part of your eyes, obstructing your vision. Droopy eyelids do not always have to cause complaints; some people also find it very disfiguring to their face.
Some people are also born with droopy eyelids, or get it due to fluid accumulation, or some other condition around the eye.
When to have your eyes lifted?
Overhanging eyelids can obstruct your vision and make you look older and tired. You experience that it is sometimes difficult to open your eyes completely because of the heavy eyelids. Complaints you may experience are headaches, eyestrain or reduced vision. In addition, you may also simply find overhanging eyelids very distracting because you look older and tireder by looks. With a simple procedure, this is quick and easy to fix.
There is no ideal age to have your eyes lifted. If you want to know if it would be a solution for you, it’s helpful to make an appointment with one of our plastic surgeons. The latter can determine in consultation with you whether it is necessary, whether you can expect improvement and what the result of treatment will be.
An upper eyelid correction with local anesthesia we perform in a treatment room our clinic in Maastricht and near Meerssen. You won’t feel anything, but will be conscious. It is also possible to opt for sedation (an intoxication). There is an additional cost for this compared to local anesthesia. For eyelid surgery under general anesthesia, we very consciously choose the safe setting of the operating room.

The eyelid surgery
An upper eyelid surgery is done under local anesthesia so you won’t feel anything. In upper eyelid surgery, the plastic surgeon removes excess eyelid skin and, if necessary, muscle and fat tissue. The scar falls neatly into the eye crease. Treatment is tailored to each client individually so that we achieve the best possible results. This procedure takes about 30 to 45 minutes. An eye elevator is also more often combined with a lower eyelid correction that removes the bags under the eyes.
If it goes well and you feel good then you can go home immediately after the treatment. You are not allowed to drive yourself so get yourself home safely. You are well informed beforehand about our aftercare and recovery.
Aftercare and recovery
Before surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions from us. It is important for your own recovery that you follow these carefully. After surgery they your eyes probably what swollen and blue. This is quite normal. You will be given a cold pack or ice goggles to reduce swelling. Also, cool regularly at home to combat swelling. After about a week you will come to the clinic for a check-up and we will remove the stitches.
You may not wear lenses for the first 2 weeks and no eye makeup for the first 3 weeks.
Most people take a week off from work. Keep in mind that it may take 3 months for your eyes to return to “normal. The small scars only mature after 1 year. The color and thickness of the scar achieved then will likely remain. Protect the scar from the sun during this period.

Risks
With eyelid surgery, there is a small chance of bleeding, infection or impaired wound healing. Usually this is not serious. Sometimes the eyelid may pull a bit. This may take a few weeks to months. Occasionally, the eye cannot close completely. This is temporary. You will be given eye drops/ointment to prevent the eyes from drying out. Sometimes numbness of the eyelids occurs or some fluid accumulation develops. These symptoms disappear naturally over time.
QUIT SMOKING
We advise all our clients to quit smoking around the time of treatment. The same applies to the use of nicotine patches and gum. Smoking not only makes you less MOOI on the outside, but also on the inside. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, skin shedding or respiratory problems with general anesthesia.
Experience of other men and women
Your desire and reasons for having eyelid surgery is personal. It is very important to us that you feel comfortable with your choices. We also give you time to discover what you feel most comfortable with. Both men and women have had eyelid surgery at the MOOI clinic.
