What are Marionette lines and how do you get them?
Marionette lines are the lines that run down from the corners of the mouth and cause drooping corners of the mouth. The lines run toward the side of the chin. These lines are called Marionette because they resemble the lines of a marionette puppet or ventriloquist.
Marionette lines result from a loss of skin firmness as you age, causing the corners of the mouth to sag downward and wrinkles to show between the corners of the mouth and chin. Skin firmness is lost due to a combination of factors, including natural aging, loss of collagen and elastin in the skin, and gravity pulling down on the skin and tissues. As the skin weakens, this causes the corners of the mouth to droop. Facial volume can also decrease as we age, giving the skin less support and making marionette lines even more noticeable. Other factors that contribute to the development of marionette lines are sun exposure, smoking, poor diet, stress and facial expressions such as frowning, smiling and pouting.

When hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into the skin, it acts like a sponge that attracts and retains water, improving the volume and structure of the treated area. The filler treatment
When treating marionette lines with filler, fillers are injected to lift the drooping corners of the mouth giving an elevated look. The treatment begins with a consultation with one of our specialists to assess your facial contours and discuss your desired results. During the consultation, we’ll discuss the different filler options, risks and benefits of treatment.
The treatment itself usually takes no longer than 15 minutes. The doctor will first apply a numbing cream, if necessary, to reduce the discomfort of the injections. The filler is then carefully injected into the marionette lines with a thin needle to increase volume and lift the corners of the mouth. Treating marionette lines with filler is a relatively quick and easy procedure with MOOI results. The effect of treatment with fillers is immediately visible.
After treatment
After treating marionette lines with filler, you don’t need any recover time and there is no pain afterwards. In a few cases, bruising, some redness or minor swelling develops. These side effects are mild and disappear within a few days to a week. You may feel the filler during the first two weeks. But don’t worry, this isn’t visible and disappears after two weeks.
It’s important to rest your skin for the first 24 hours after the treatment. Try to avoid strenuous exercise, sunlight and the use of makeup on treated skin.
